Company Profile

Dow Corning was established in 1943 specifically to explore the potential of silicones. It was created as a joint venture between Corning Glass Works (now Corning, Incorporated) and The Dow Chemical Company.

The Dow Corning Ltd site at Barry employs over 600 staff. At the site silicones are manufactured as either fluids or elastomeric products for uses including lubrication, sealing, bonding, releasing and defoaming.

Environmental Achievements
  • Reduced recycle time on distillation, saving over £300k in steam use per year
  • Used a specialised team to increase reliability and reduce down time events
  • Built and opened the Cadoxton ponds biodiversity and education centre, which showcases sustainable energy use and promotes education for children and others
