Tesco Swansea:
Tesco Swansea (Llansamlet) opened in April 2006 and is an environmentally progressive store achieving a 36% reduction in energy consumption against its reference store. It combines a number of efficiency measures and renewable energy including:
- Generating electricity on site through combined heat and power providing almost the entire heating load for the sales floor area
- Two state of the art CO2 refrigeration systems, the only examples of its type in the UK
- Installed a 60KW Photo Voltaic system, totalling 444 panels using polycrystalline, monocrystalline and single-ply cells
- Rainwater is harvested from the roof for all toilet flushing
- North Lights provide natural daylight which replaces artificial lighting
