Plas Menai is the national watersports centre for Wales, providing training and courses in a range of outdoor activities for young people and adults across the UK. Dinghy sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, yacht sailing, powerboating, mountain biking and mountain sports take place throughout the year, on the Menai Strait and Snowdonia. The centre was established in 1983 and has grown to provide over 20,000 days of activities per year.
Located outside Caernarfon, the centre, which is still Sports Council Wales owned, employs 50 staff. The staff team are committed to sustainability and aim to incorporate the principles of sustainability into all areas of the business.
Achievements
- Achieved Green Dragon Environmental Standard® Level 2
- Implemented waste management system for equipment maintenance, domestic and office waste
- Reduced electricity consumption by 15%
