City and Council of Swansea:
The City and County of Swansea is fully committed to developing and implementing a waste management and reduction strategy.
In terms of the highway service the main aims are to reduce:
- Waste landfilled
- Use of quarried product
- Carbon emissions
The introduction of a number of working practices such as crushing for re-use, Jetpatching and Rhinopatching have already made a significant impact, and the Authority’s immediate goals are to extend off site recycling at a new Waste Transfer Station to include soils, green waste and gully arisings; and to extend insitu recycling using processes such as Retread.
Future aspirations include exploring the potential for co-ordination with other organisations to improve economies of scale and to consider new processes as they develop. To meet these aspirations the City and County of Swansea will require the assistance of the relevant professional bodies such as WRAP and ARENA Network.
