Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust is the largest in Wales and the third largest in the UK. With an annual operating budget of around £580 million, it employs 12,000 staff, and provides integrated healthcare services from 9 hospitals and community care premises in Cardiff and the Eastern Vale of Glamorgan. It serves a population of over 500,000. The environmental impact and sustainability issues facing the Trust are both significant and challenging. The Trust has a tremendous impact in terms of its social, economic and environmental responsibilities, and the way it operates, whose effects have to be responsibly managed and ameliorated.
