The Conway Centre is a large, 375 bed, residential education centre situated in the grounds of Plas Newydd, beside the Menai Strait. Formerly the HMS Conway school, the Centre is one of the largest in the UK with 18000 visitors and 50000 bed nights per annum. It employs 60 people from the local area and generates a turnover of over £2m. Activities on offer include art, drama, field studies, outdoor pursuits, music and dance. The Centre committed to the Green Dragon Environmental Standard® process in 2003, and has since achieved Levels 2 and 3, as well as gaining Eco Centre status.

Achievements

  • Heating oil consumption reduced by over 56000 litres saving over £18000
  • Electricity and gas consumption reduced by over 93000 kWh
  • CO2 reduced by 192000 kg
  • Per person per bed-night spend on energy, water and waste reduced from £2.76 to £2.71 in one year
