The Highways reclamation and recycling project is operated by the Bridgend County Borough Council Highways Maintenance and Building Maintenance departments. Both departments are based within the Environmental & Planning Services Directorate.

Achievements

  • Achieved Level 2 of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard®
  • Recycled 2041 tonnes of highway/building maintenance waste
  • Made cost savings of £38,637 through operating the Highways recycling & reclamation project.
  • Over 90% of all wastes generated were recycled in 2005/06

Future Plans

  • Work towards Level 3 Green Dragon Environmental Standard
  • A further 7% of the gully/road sweepings is to be diverted to the MREC facility for recycling
  • Recycling targets for next year are 2903 tonnes of gully/road sweepings, concrete/hardcore and lamp glass.
