Company Profile

101 Battalion REME is an Army establishment that is based in Hightown Barracks, Wrexham.  It is the Headquarters for a Territorial Battalion which has Companies spread throughout the UK.  The unit is also the lead within Hightown Barracks that provides advice and direction to 550 employees.    

In August 2005, the EMS implementation progress was found to be some way behind meeting targets set by the MOD.  A complete review was undertaken with a small team and the EMS was created by March 2006, 13 months ahead of target.  A training awareness programme and a number of emergency plans were created. 

Achievements

• This was the first TA unit in the Army to achieve EMS compliance.
• This EMS has been adopted as ‘best practice’ across all Army units in Wales.
• Waste going to landfill has been reduced by 40%.

Future Plans

• Further reduce landfill waste by a further 10%.
• Further reduce utilities usage by 20%.
• Install intelligent lighting systems throughout all buildings.
