Transport

Pre-event

Transport was minimised where possible and all mileage has been recorded:

Judging

All judges shared cars where possible and appointments were organised to minimise mileage.  Due to the location of many of the applicants and time restrictions, the use of public transport was virtually impossible.

Literature

Initial discussions on literature requirements meant that face-to-face meetings were essential.  However, travel to these meetings consisted of a cycle and train journeys by our designer. 

Trophies

Meetings for initial discussions for trophy design necessitated face-to-face meetings.  Although public transport could not be utilised for these journeys, trips were minimised and emails and telephone conversations encouraged.  It is envisaged that the trophy design will be used in subsequent years' awards and so journeys will be reduced.

Food and drink

Welsh produce has been used at past events, however it was felt that the variety and tastes of Welsh wine were not adequately known.  A wine tasting was organised with wines from four local vineyards.  Some travel was necessary to collect wines and these journeys have been included in our calculation of travel impacts - however,  these journeys were all undertaken as part of other job requirements such as existing appointments or travel to work.

The majority of food and drink was sourced from local suppliers and where possible food miles have been included. Coffee and tea were fair trade and food miles have also been included from the source of the beans and leaves.

Filming

Filming for the awards was also reduced for this event and video footage from previous events or library footage was used.  Where new filming was necessary, maximum use of the location during the day was ensured.  Due to equipment requirements, use of public transport was not possible and mileage has been recorded.

During the event

Both venues were close to public transport links.  An assessment of the amount of mileage undertaken for guests, film crew, photographer and others have been undertaken.

It is hoped that many guests will complete the feedback form with accurate travel to venue details and so a more precise figure can be generated
