Carbon Dioxide Calculation:
We have made an assessment carbon dioxide emissions associated with the hosting of the event with a view of offsetting through various programmes and initiatives to be determined at a later date.
We recognise that reducing carbon emissions is the first requirement and therefore we have introduced many initiatives.
Travelling associated with and energy use at the event
We have used a number of methods for calculating our carbon emissions from transport. Where accurate details of vehicles and mileage were available, CO2 emissions were calculated.
Where no such details have been available, guidance from Climate Care has been used, for example:
- Guests travelling <75 miles to the event generate 30 Kg of CO2
- Guests travelling >75 miles to the event generate 50 Kg of CO2
- Guests using overnight accommodation generate an additional - 40Kg CO2
Of the 420 guests attending it is estimated that 80% would travel less than 75 miles and 20% over 75 miles; 20% would stay overnight.
Paper use
1100 sheets of A3 paper were used. On average a sheet weighs 200g.
One tonne of paper equates to 600kg of CO2
Food Miles
The main constituents of the menu (salmon, beef and wine) have been included in our calculation of food miles.
Total mileage recorded to 11th October was 9724.
Carbon dioxide tonnages

Offsetting
We are investigating the best option for offsetting our carbon emissions. Further details will be included on this website at a later date.
